What is a Social Enterprise?
That is a great question. It’s a way of doing business. See, we operate like any other business, but what makes us unique is we also have social aims. For Growing Gardeners it’s helping and supporting young people to realise and fulfill their full potential.
Will I have experienced gardeners?
Yes. We currently employ two professional gardeners. It’s their job to support the young trainee gardeners working with us at any given time. When we work on your garden, you will have a professional garden and a trainee gardener.
How much do you charge?
Our prices vary and depend on how big the area is, how long the growth is and the time it will take to complete the job. Our standard hourly community rate is £30 per hour, maintenance of grass and hedges differ from £22 and £28 per cut depending on size.
Do you do any hard landscaping work e.g. fencing, slabbing and turfing?
We previously provided these types of jobs but we have now changed our services to provide and focus more on soft landscaping based work. We still put turf down, lay chips and create borders etc. Just let us know what you need!
Do you work in the Winter?
The cold doesn’t stop us! We offer many services such as winter pruning, snow clearing and gritting, planter building and much more!
Do you take garden waste away?
Yes, but we charge £10 per ton bag of waste that is removed. Usually we will use the brown bin at the address with your permission.
Do you cover Edinburgh and surrounding areas?
Our services cover all of Midlothian. We will travel to Edinburgh, East Lothian and surrounding areas if we estimate the work will take 2 hours or longer to complete. We hope this is understandable.
Do you charge for weedkiller?
Yes, our prices for weedkiller application vary depending on size of area needing pesticide application. £15 for small and medium areas, £25 for large areas.
Is the weedkiller you use pet friendly?
Yes but we advise you keep your furry friend away from freshly sprayed areas for at least 2 hours or until it’s dry. We all have pets at Growing Gardners and love animals (dogs are our favourite, we cannot lie). The pesticide we use won’t harm them but if they get any on their paws it may kill whatever they walk on i.e. grass and plants. Please, please, please speak to the Gardener, they carry an Information Sheet about what we currently use and it’s implications.
Where are Growing Gardeners located?
We are currently based at the Y2K project building in Mayfield, Dalkeith.

Are estimates free?
Yes! Our estimates and free and of no obligation to carry out estimated work.
What types of payment are accepted?
We accept payments by cash, cheque, bank transfer or standing order (maintenance only and with exceptions).
Can I pay in instalments?
